O.M. WALKS

pop, magic & nature

“There’s no way of knowing which way this could go…”

To celebrate Spring, the coming of Summer and the magic beneath our feet, I want you to join me in walking your own way into history.

A giant has emerged from Dawson’s Hill in South London, close to Peckham Rye where William Blake had his Jerusalem-heralding daydreams. I will be taking a series of walks in the shape of Dawson’s head joined by friends and co-conspirators. The Spring equinox of March 20th seems a good time to begin to summon up the giants of ancient Britain, through an incantation of the old and the new, the art of walking with the addition of technology to both map out a route in the shape of Dawson’s head and etch a spell upon the land.

I’ll be taking these walks working on the principle that, in the words of John Higgs, “our modern future and our deep past need not be separated”. Further walks, talks and performances are planned to take place around key lunar calendar dates through to a summer solstice event on the Midsummer Boulevard and a hopeful re-opening of the connections between people in these challenging times.

You can join in by mapping out your own path in the shape of the giant’s head, and in doing so make your own new connections with the world beneath your feet. Simply download the template* of the giant’s head path and add it to any map you choose, big or small and take your first steps into history.

So together we can walk this wayward line around the silent pubs of Soho or around a Trump-owned golf course in Scotland, a single HS2-threatened tree or Riddley Walker’s post apocalypse Kent. And once walked, send your own storyline & spell to competitions@heavenlyrecordings.com for every offering we receive will be met with a reward. Whether it is the piece of Strava art you create, a photo, video clip, sound recording or some words, something… as you endeavour to walk Dawson’s silhouette.

It’s a different way of exploring your neighbourhood as we begin to emerge from the pandemic, a break from the mundane, a momentary escape from the voyeuristic hell-scape of social media, a re-aligning of ourselves with our nature and the outdoors.

For the good of all living things. Every small step, every street-find, field recording or picture brings us one giant leap closer to a united kingdom of the hidden magic, myths & reality.

“Beneath the pavement the beach. And a release from the everyday…”
